Sea change inspires Ash’s Islands

Irish trio Ash’s new LP Islands is something of a post-break-up album for vocalist-guitarist Tim Wheeler, but it seems songwriting has always helped him find his way through the fog.
“Very much,” he says, down the line from London. “I think, in a way, it prolongs the grief if you’re going through some kind of mourning for a person or a great relationship. It definitely makes it a bit harder if you’re still working on songs a long time after it’s over, but it’s very cathartic when you finish, and it helps you get it out of your system and move on and understand things. I think that’s one of the big perks of songwriting, doing art and writing.”
